Classes
Students take part in a variety of classes and ensembles, helping them develop as well-rounded musicians. Each student follows a timetable that suits their needs, balancing practical music-making with essential musical skills.

Instrumental Lessons
Specialist 1:1 instrumental tuition at 30, 45 or 60 minutes each Saturday
Instruments and Disciplines include:
- Strings – Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass
- Wind – Bassoon, Clarinet, Flute, Oboe, Saxophone, Recorder
- Brass – Cornet, French Horn, Trombone, Trumpet
- Percussion – Drums, Percussion, Keyboard, Piano
- Guitar – Classical, Electric, Bass
Performance Classes
Each week, students have the opportunity to perform to their peers and tutors in classes focused on their development and improvement. Each discipline runs at Junior, Intermediate, and Senior levels.
Current performance classes include: Piano, Strings, Guitar, Woodwind, Brass
Choir
All students are able to join one of our choirs. Choral singing is a crucial part of a well rounded musical education, developing aural and musicianship skills.

Ensembles and Orchestras
Our ensembles and orchestras vary in size and ability, meaning each student can work at a level that best suits them.
Our Ensembles and Orchestras:
- • Chamber Orchestra – Large scale works such as Symphonies and Overtures.
- • Chamber Groups – Smaller ensembles including: String Quartets, String Orchestra, Concert Band, and Wind Ensemble.
- • Pop/Jazz/Folk Group
Classroom-based Learning
Students have the opportunity to develop new musical skills whether working toward a grade or to further their musical understanding.

Composition
Composition empowers students to unleash their creativity, master new techniques, and bring their music to life through workshops and live performances.
Performance Opportunities
Performing and celebrating our student's achievements lies at the heart of Sheffield Music Academy. We offer over 40 performance opportunities over the academic year.
- • Lunchtime Concerts – Held on site each SMA Saturday.
- • Concerts – Formal concerts at venues including Sheffield Cathedral and Upper Chapel.
- • Internal Workshops – we host visiting practitioners for specialist masterclasses and tuition.
